Offsite Locations
The MAH currently oversees and maintains three historical offsite locations in Santa Cruz County. Evergreen Cemetery, Davenport Jail, and the historic Octagon building found on the plaza of Abbott Square bring art and history outside the museum walls. Check out their unique visiting schedules and addresses below to plan your visit.

Historic Evergreen Cemetery
Many of the adventurous people who arrived in the 1800s; gold prospectors, artists, Chinese immigrants, mountain men, forgotten pioneers and more are buried in Evergreen Cemetery. They helped change Santa Cruz into the growing modern city it is today. Take a self-guided walking tour to learn more about Santa Cruz history.

Davenport Jail Museum
This 1914 two-room county jail is set in the old whaling village of Davenport, it is a small reminder of rowdier times. The location is between Ocean Street and Davenport Avenue on Cabrillo Highway.
The Davenport Jail will be open various Saturdays through spring 2023 with The Writing on the Wall by Hank Willis Thomas and Dr. Baz Dreisinger. This temporary exhibition is a collaborative installation made from letters, poems, notes, and stories written by incarcerated people and displayed in and around a historic jail-turned-museum as a form of verbal and visual intrusion. Co-presented with the Institute of the Arts and Sciences at UCSC.
