Join us for a talk with community leader George Ow, Jr.

George Ow, Jr. was born under a lucky star in 1943, in Santa Cruz Chinatown, the year that the Chinese Exclusion Act was repealed. He will speak on how his family coped in the United States during the exclusion, a time when "A Chinaman's Chance" meant absolutely no chance at all. Find out what attitudes and actions worked to make good use of opportunities, and about the kind of people who helped the Chinese and his family. We'll also learn how George lived in his early years in Santa Cruz Chinatown, his life and work since then, and his dedication to serving the community.

Presented in partnership with Special Collections & Archives at UC Santa Cruz, Asian American Pacific Islander Resource Center, and Flex Kids Culture.
