Meet the McQueens, Eatons, Cirillos, and Andree LeBourveau. They all belong.
As part of our spring membership campaign, we wanted to spotlight some of the people whose support helps to make our work possible. Thanks to the generosity of these individuals—and over 1000 other member households—the MAH is able to bring people together every day through art and local history.
As the backbone of our organization, member support allows us to remain a vital cultural institution that keeps Santa Cruz County creative and connected. We are so appreciative!
Please take a look at a few profiles below and see how the MAH has enriched the lives of our members.
Names: Christina, Bryan, Mayari and Hunter McQueen
MAH Member Since: 2017
Reason For Joining: My family and I love the MAH! From the relevant and historical exhibits to the family-friendly artistic events, there is always something to look forward to. It is an inclusive, engaging, and thoughtful space for everyone.
Favorite MAH Memory: In January of 2018, my husband, our daughter, and I attended the opening of the Tom Killion exhibit. It was a busy event, and the atmosphere was cheerful, alive, and warm. One of the staff photographers snapped and shared a great photo of my daughter and I admiring his "Santa Barbara Moon." It was exciting to spend an evening at the MAH for this special event. We knew we wanted to attend more!
Name: Andree LeBourveau
MAH Member Since: 1980s
Reason For Joining: I grew up in Santa Cruz and I have loved the arts all my life. I decided to join the museum when I was in college studying art and art history at Cabrillo, in the early 1980s. At that time the museum was located above the SCPL. I am grateful for the museum assimilation and inclusion of our diverse arts community. It truly is a community center.
Favorite MAH Memory: I had so much at Frequency. Dressed up in anything sparkles and glowing, brought a friend and participated in the exhibits- dancing in front of the video, hula hoops, acrobatics. It was just amazing.
Names: Matt, Vanessa, Gavin and Ryder Eaton
MAH Member Since: 2017
Reason For Joining: We love supporting the arts and our local museum community. The MAH brings families and generations together- through the wonderful visiting exhibitions and permanent collection, we have learned about the rich history of our local area, and the amazing artists native to Santa Cruz and CA. Plus, they offer fun events year round!
Favorite MAH Memory: It’s hard to choose just one as there are several. The two that really standout- the Screaming Hand exhibit from 2016 and the Day of the Dead event during First Friday last year. We feel lucky to be members of the MAH!
Names: Rika, Jason, Ryu and Riki Cirillo
MAH Members Since: 2017
Reason For Joining: Appreciation and participation in art and culture have always played a major role in our lives. We felt that artistic expression was not only important for our kids' development, but also as a way to learn about and appreciate cultures and different ways of life.
Favorite MAH Memory: Glow: A Festival of Fire and Light always comes to mind as one of our favorite MAH memories. I don't think we'd ever seen anything quite like it!
