5 Creative Santa Cruz Events Happening in May 2019
Ah, May. That precious last breath of space and time before the wild summer months filled with $1 Boardwalk ride nights, beach bonfires, and some of the best people watching of all time on West Cliff.
Since we’re all about a stronger, more creative Santa Cruz County at the MAH, here’s a list of some of the best creative events happening around town before the end of the month.
1. Guelaguetza
Sunday, May 19th at San Lorenzo Park, 9-5pm
Spend the day savoring authentic Oaxacan food, music, dance, and crafts with Senderos at San Lorenzo Park. This festival transports the traditional Oaxacan fiesta to Santa Cruz. Grab your favorite lawn blanket and enjoy this authentic celebration under the Sunday sun.
2. Law and Legacy of RBG
Wednesday, May 22nd at DNA’s Comedy Lab, 7pm
Celebrate the legacy of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg with a panel discussion by Santa Cruz County’s local women judges and attorneys. Extra perk? One judge even does a legendary impression of RBG herself. More.
3. Strawberry & Justice Festival
Thursday, May 23rd at UCSC Cowell Ranch Hay Barn, 4-6pm
Uncover the stories of labor and politics behind our region’s most delicious treasure: the humble strawberry. Hosted by UCSC’s Food Systems Working Group, this free festival digs into environmental justice featuring speakers from across Santa Cruz County. More.
4. Illustrating Geology Workshop

5. Glowga
Friday, May 31st at the MAH, 5-8pm
