The Red Hot Ball Stars is THE annual, major, fundraising benefit event for THE MUSEUM OF ART & HISTORY @ THE MCPHERSON CENTER (MAH). The purpose of The Red Hot Ball Stars auction is to provide crucial support for educational programming and museum exhibits and to further the primary mission of the Museum of Art & History.
Important Community Benefits
MAH is a non-profit educational 501(c)3 institution that promotes a greater understanding of contemporary art and the history of Santa Cruz County, through its exhibitions, collections, and programs, for the benefit of residents and visitors to Santa Cruz County. Our tax identification number: 94-2718861. Proceeds from Stars ticket sales, sponsorships, silent and live auctions and opportunity drawings are directed to significant exhibitions of contemporary art and the history of Santa Cruz County and providing educational opportunities to thousands of children and adults through school tours and adult and family programs, culture, art and history to our residents and visitors. Last year, over 3,000 Santa Cruz area students participated in our youth school tours programs. In addition to school tours, MAH extends educational programming by offering Family Art Saturdays led by professional artists and Free Family Festivals twice a year.
The Red Hot Ball Stars Event
This year The Red Hot Ball Stars will be celebrated on December 5, 2009. Over the last 17 years income from the event has consistently increased, exceeding $170,000. This glamorous evening is presented by the Museum's Board of Trustees and numerous members and volunteers from the Stars Committee, with additional support provided by Museum staff. Over 2,500 guests from the Santa Cruz, San Jose and the Central Coast area are invited. Each year, the 20,000 square feet of the Museum and surrounding courtyards of the McPherson center are transformed into a thematic setting; recently some have included 007, Moulin Rouge, Hollywood and Italy. Guests arrive to entertainment, cocktails and hors oeuvres before entering a live auction in the main Solari Gallery. Generous bidding ensues for works of art, vacation packages and many unique opportunities donated by businesses and individuals. Activities continue with a silent Art auction featuring over 75 works of art donated by local Santa Cruz area artists. Before the evening concludes, over 350 guests have enjoyed a buffet dinner with community members, family and friends, with entertainment provided by local musicians, singers and actors.
