Angelo Grova: Passeggiata: A Ritual Walk at Dusk

Angelo Grova left Sicily when he was four years old. He did not return for 33 years, but when he did, he found many of his childhood memories to be based on reality. He created this body of stainless steel sculptures out of a childhood memory of the ancient ritual, Passeggiata, during which everyone in the community leaves their houses and assembles in the square in order to bind together their community and to advertise the power of their clans. Passeggiata, an act or event that is somewhere between pleasure and duty, is a nightly dance over timeworn stones that has continued into the age of e-mail and cell phones.
