Word Church is a community of local poets who recognize and value the power of spoken word as a means of healing, growing, and empowering ourselves and each other.

We gather every Monday to write together in an open writing workshop from 4-5pm, then host an open mic followed by a featured poet starting at 5:30pm.

The night breaks down like this:

4:00 - Writing Workshop

5:30 - Open Mic List Goes Out

6:00 - Poetry Begins

7:00 - This Week's Featured Poet: Chestina Craig

More on this week's feature:

Chestina Craig (she/her) lives in Monterey Bay, California with her cat. Her work has been published by Crab Fat Magazine, Sea Foam Mag, Button Poetry and others. She has presented her work at The Presidents Commission on The Status of Women, The Young Women’s Empowerment Conference, & more. She has a degree in Marine Biology, loves to meld science and art, and sometimes pets sharks or hangs out with octopi. She hopes that one day she will only be required to wear gauzy clothing, study the ocean, and get paid to have too many feelings. Her chapbook “body of water” came out October 2017 with Sadie Girl Press. You can find more information at chestinacraig.com.

All ages, styles, backgrounds, beliefs, and needs are welcomed. Respect is expected.
