Virtual Craft Night: Posters for Health Care Workers

Join local artist and nurse Tawnya Gilbert to spread joy and thank hospital staff who are working on the frontlines in Santa Cruz County.

At the beginning of shelter-in-place, Tawnya Gilbert, a Santa Cruz Sutter Maternity Surgery RN, realized that nurses across the world had an absolute obligation to get their communities through this epidemic. Seeing firsthand the fear and tragedy that was touching the lives of all health care workers she wanted to find a way to give her fellow front-line workers something they desperately needed... inspiration, hope humor, and humanity back into our Hospital Break room.

The idea started as a way to get inspiration back in her break room but after getting some media attention and sharing out her idea with the community Tawnya decided to get artwork in every hospital break room that has been impacted by COVID-19 throughout Santa Cruz County. The project eventually reached 6 hospitals and one as far as Maryland.

We are lucky to get to work with Tawyna now at the MAH for a virtual craft night, expanding on the work and joy she has shared with others since March. Drop-by on Zoom to share your work, swap ideas, and help thank the frontlines workers across Santa Cruz County. After the event, we will be accepting work via email (jeff@santacruzmmah.org) for your art to find it's way into local hospitals and essential worker break rooms across the County!
