Mourner's Potluck: A Community Ritual for Grief & Grieving
Wednesday, November 2, 2022,
5:30pm - 6:30pm

Join us for an evening of grief, ritual, live performance and a mourner’s potluck dinner at Evergreen Cemetery.
Grief is a verb, a process. How we engage with grief informs how we live our lives and experience the world. As we emerge from the first few COVID years, the intention of this evening is to honor and ritualize our individual and collective grief in community. A chance to share a meal together and experience community and abundance as a healing salve.
Hosted by grief therapist and poet Mackenzie Studebaker and MAH Curator & Exhibitions Manager Everett Ó Cillín, attendees will experience poems and performances on the themes of grief/grieving and are invited to bring a ritual dish to share. This could be a food or a dish that brings you great comfort in times of transition, something that reminds you of a loved one that has died, or a dish tied to a grief memory. There will also be a small community altar at the event where individuals are encouraged to bring a small ritual object to set the tone for the evening.
Space is limited so please RSVP.
Mackenzie Studebaker is a Santa Cruz based psychotherapist specializing in grief and life transitions. Mackenzie is also a meditation teacher and poet. Their upcoming debut novel, We Don’t Need the Treehouse, is a non-fiction memoir told in poems about death, dying, and grief.
