Nothing feels more iconic of a Santa Cruz summer than the Giant Dipper, a red-and-white monument to fun, thrills, and the history of a landmark at the heart of town.
That icon turns 95 this year.
Discover all of the historical mysteries of the coaster’s construction on the third episode of That Was Weird, a new audio series from the MAH. Hosted by two local lifers (and MAH staffers) Marla Novo and Gabriel Kittle-Cervine, That Was Weird shares the people’s history of our strange and wonderful little beach town.
This month we sat down with Ted Whiting III and Jessie Durant to talk about the 95th anniversary of the Giant Dipper at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Dive into Boardwalk history. Learn more about all of the archives and collections stored below the Boardwalk museum. Get the answer to the age-old question: is the Boardwalk haunted?
You can listen to all of the episodes here.
The outro for this month's episode is "I Still Believe" by Tim Cappello from the movie 'The Lost Boys'.
