Give the Gift of a Local Experience
Set out or stay in, there is a lot to enjoy in Santa Cruz County. The MAH currently oversees and maintains three historical offsite locations in Santa Cruz County. Evergreen Cemetery, Davenport Jail, and the historic Octagon building found on the plaza of Abbott Square bring art and history outside the museum walls. Check out their unique visiting schedules and addresses below to plan your visit this holiday season!
Historic Evergreen Cemetery
Taking a hike out and around Harvey West park? Don't forget to stop by Evergreen Cemetery and check out one of the oldest cemeteries in California! Many of the adventurous people who arrived in the 1800s; gold prospectors, artists, Chinese immigrants, mountain men, forgotten pioneers and more are buried in Evergreen Cemetery. They helped change Santa Cruz into the growing modern city it is today. Take a self-guided walking tour to learn more about Santa Cruz history.
Davenport Jail
Take a cruise up highway 1 and make the Davenport Jail a pitstop on your drive! This 1914 two-room county jail was used only twice. Set in the old whaling village of Davenport, it is a small reminder of rowdier times. The location is between Ocean Street and Davenport Avenue on Cabrillo Highway, just across a tasting room and cafe!
Abbott Square & the Octagon
The MAH's outdoor public plaza, Abbott Square boasts restaurants, bars, and unexpected connections with local art & history. Recently reopened for outdoor dining. Check out the many lives the historic Octagon building found out on the plaza! Also, MAH members don't forget to use your Downtown Discounts while out and about Downtown Santa Cruz!
