Volunteer

Museum experiences could not happen without the spirit and participation of dedicated volunteers. The MAH Volunteer Program offers the structure and foundation for volunteers to join in partnership with paid staff to contribute to the mission of the Museum.
Why should I volunteer?
Volunteers help connect the Santa Cruz community with local history, art, culture and ideas. They direct work and support staff members to deliver great programs and exhibitions and have fun while doing it.
What does it take?
Passion to share your stories, experiences and knowledge about local art and history with visitors.
Dedication to devote time and energy into making the Museum an active, social place.
Reliability to be on time and demonstrate your commitment to the Museum.
Who are our volunteers?
We have a fun, friendly and diverse crowd of MAH volunteers. From curious college students to retired professionals, the MAH has opportunities that interest everyone.
What can I do as a volunteer?
Volunteers work in all departments of the museum, including education, collections, events, Evergreen Cemetery, Davenport Jail, and family, school, and adult programming. We are always looking for people who are interested in being gallery hosts–helping visitors explore the exhibitions and learn more. We also frequently need volunteers who can help out at particular events and programs, doing everything from leading craft activities to pouring wine.
How to get started
To learn more about the Volunteer Program at the MAH, please attend one of our monthly Volunteer Orientations.
Orientation is held every 3rd Saturday of the month at 11:30am. Just stop by Museum’s front desk and say “I’d like to help my MAH.”
