The After GLOW
Posted by Nina on March 28, 2012
When we first decided to add a fire festival into the mix for 3rd Fridays, we had no idea it would become such a huge (and hugely enjoyed) event. GLOW attracted about 4,000 visitors over two nights – Friday, March 16, when we presented an indoor digital art and blacklight experience, and Friday, March 23, when we took to the streets with fire sculptures. We were amazed and a little overwhelmed by the response. The artists were amazing, the volunteers were tremendous, and our partners at the City of Santa Cruz (most notably in the fire department) were wonderful. Thanks especially to our core team: Stacey Marie Garcia, who coordinated the whole event, Steve Cooper, who wrangled all the fire artists, Drew Detweiler, who took the lead on the digital side, and Ron Slack, who helped us promote it all.
We will definitely have another GLOW next year. Until then, enjoy these photos – and share your suggestions, reflections, and links in the comments.
